LOCAL MEDICAL STARTUP MANUFACTURER LOOKING TO CHANGE HOW SURGEONS ARE TRAINED

Encoris, a Holland, Michigan-based medical startup company and manufacturer, has invented a surgical training system called the S2T Surgical SmartTrainer. The trainer is gaining attention from medical device companies including Stryker Spine UK, that see the value in using the S2T trainer in place of cadavers for surgical training.

The trainer’s anatomy is based on actual human digital data and provides a portable, customizable, safe and affordable alternative to surgical training that, until now, has been performed using cadavers or animals.

The patented S2T technology consists of cameras tracking along fixed rails and internal LED lights to provide real-time imagery as either live, color video or as x-ray-like stills, and proximity when practicing with surgical instruments. Many of the S2T trainer components, including acrylic support bases, fabricated metal, and mechanical and software engineering, are provided by West Michigan manufacturers.

Please let me know if you are interested in talking with Encoris’ founder about how this trainer is changing the landscape of training surgeons. Amanda Chocko, Director of SURGE at Lakeshore Advantage, is also available for an interview, to share background info on how we’ve helped Encoris secure funding and how we assist West Michigan entrepreneurs through our SURGE program.
