Michigan STEM Forward

Matching college students to STEM-focused internships

Michigan STEM Forward is a statewide program that matches students attending Michigan colleges and universities with internship opportunities at the state’s leading innovative companies. Companies do not have to be in a specific industry, but all internships must be STEM-focused. Michigan STEM Forward provides students meaningful career experience and promotes job retention in the state, while providing financial support to companies who hire these interns.

This program is a collaboration between Ann Arbor Spark and Michigan Economic Development Corporation.

How it works:
  • Company must select an intern from the Ann Arbor Spark intern database.
  • Ann Arbor Spark pays for up to 50% ($3,000 for a full time intern, $1,500 for part time intern) of the STEM internship. The STEM intern is on the Ann Arbor Spark payroll for a 10-12 week internship.
  • The company pays Ann Arbor Spark the matching 50% of the intern’s wages, in addition to 11% wages to cover FICA, FUTA taxes and workers comp.
